Mini-Show Succulent March 2018: Gasteria and hybrids

Gasteria is a genus of succulent plants, native to South Africa (and the far south-west corner of Namibia).

Small to medium cacti from USA and Mexico, often with brilliant flowers.

The varied genus Crassula contains around 200 species and many cultivars.

Eriosyce from Chile and Peru.

Mammillaria is one of the larger genera in the Cactus family, and one of the most variable.

Caudiciform plants, also known as ‘Fat Plants’, are a grouping of many totally unrelated plants all having a fat, short, swollen stem-trunk.

All variegates are mutants. Something has gone wrong with the cellular structure of the leaf or stem growth tip (apical meristem) of the plant.

The three most common types of mutation are crests, monstrose growth and variegation. All of these are mutations of the cellular structure.

Sometimes called "Living Stones".

A genus of cacti from the dry coastal deserts, particularly the Atacama Desert, of northern Chile.
